Still the prettiest of them all

Sakaura

Today for the first time Sakaura and Georgia actually licked each other. They have gone nose to nose before, usually ending in a hiss. But today they were nose to nose and they started to bathe each other. Strange behavior from these two.

Trying a new tool

Sleeping on the job

I have downloaded Windows Live Writer so I wanted to check it out with this blog.  It appears that it will work fine.  I’ve got it linked to my Flickr gallery, so I am going to post a picture and see how that appears.

I am not sure if I have already posted this one.  I call it “Sleeping on the Job”. Winking

Georgia Lily

The pictures taken with the phone leave a lot to be desired.  But if you look closely you can see a little one-eyed face peering out of the window.  The open windows have surely made the cats much more friendly toward each other.  They all want to be right in the window, but Georgia usually wins that spot.  It is funny how she is the smallest, and the youngest, of these three cats, but she is fearless and she is.the.boss!

She has become so independent.  It is hard to catch her at times.  She does not want to be held or petted.  This is a big change for her, since she was so social when she first came here.

I tried to bring her outside on a leash this morning and she would have none of that!  She is definitely an indoor cat, who just loves to look outdoors.

Loves sunshine

I made a place for fat Sakaura to be able to enjoy some sun and fresh air.  Look who took it over.  Why am I not surprised.  This cat is THE boss of everyone.  But we love her.

Can I Post with my new phone?

I am just trying a post with my new phone.  I took this photo of Georgia Lily innocently napping by Snoopy.

I wish Snoopy's eyes would photograph better. They either look like burning flames or bright lights. She has pretty BLUE eyes for real.

The cats continue to "socialize". Snoopy is tolerant of this upstart addition to the family, but she is not really amused. Georgia casually slaps her from time to time - and she does not find that at all funny.

Sakaura and Georgia take turns chasing each other. Sakaura is a poor loser and likes to hiss loudly when she has had enough.

My reference to Georgia as a peacemaker really meant she has caused a truce between the other two cats. Neither of them is really wanting to be her buddy, but she is such a confident little cat that she really could care less. She slaps at both of them equally. :giggle:

Peace and quiet!

Georgia's become very independent. She's not a cuddly cat by any means. She does make her presence known if we happen to sleep a bit too late for her taste though.

Sakaura sleeps at the foot of our bed. She's the more social of the three cats. Georgia likes to play but once the playing is done, she is off somewhere on her own. Snoopy spends the majority of her time sleeping in her bed, but we could set the clock by her appearances when it is time to eat.

All in all, things are going very well. I think Georgia was our peacemaker.

We go for hours not seeing Georgia, but the minute we go to bed she appears and starts rifling through everything on the top of my dresser. The last two nights I have had to put my glasses in a drawer since she tries to take them off and hide them. She is something else!

She goes anywhere (and everywhere) she pleases. An open door, open drawer, open trash can - she's there. I have to be careful with the clothes dryer, too. She is so quick that she can sneak by without us actually seeing her.

Georgia and Sakaura are getting along so much better. They have stopped the hissing and slapping for the most part. Snoopy just stays out of the way of the both of them. She's been seen giving Georgia a slap if she invades her space. Since Snoopy is the only one of the three without claws, I am happy to see that the two younger cats don't see to try to slap at her at all. I guess they know. Or perhaps her loud growl is so menacing that they don't dare try to attack her.

Who knew that bringing a third cat into the mix would result in peace! For that I thank you, Miss Georgia!

Birdwatching!

Birdwatching!
Originally uploaded by fbruehl

I had a tv tray sitting in the living room and Georgia took possession of that as her personal bird watching perch. I moved it close to the door and she was planted there for a long while. She does not do anything for a very long while though - I think she is much too curious to ever do that.

This morning I was loading the washing machine and she just had to try to jump up to see that action. I picked her up and let her watch the agitator move around and she was curious but her body language quickly told me she wanted no part of that!

She and Sakaura seem to "play" now. Of course, their usual game is chase and Georgia does most of the chasing. Snoopy, on the other hand, is content to have another cat who leaves little bits of food in her bowl. That is Snoopy's big job in life - licking all the cat food bowls clean!

Georgia playing

What a funny cat this is. We really should have changed her name to Snoopy except we already have a cat with that name. She is just so curious - about everything.

Yesterday we came in from shopping and I had tons of bags, so unloaded some on the floor and went back to the car to get more. The cat girls were all nosing around in the plastic bags, just like curious children. In one of the bags I had a 12X magnifying mirror. My eyesight is so poor that I use mirrors like that to put on mascara (without my glasses). Georgia found that mirror and we almost died laughing. She started stalking the gigantic 12X cat. I pulled the mirror out of the bag and put it so she could get a good view and we watched. She would twist and turn her head and sneak up and then jump back, and I thought she was finally afraid of something. Wrong! After a bit more investigation, she ran up to the mirror and slapped the giant cat! She is fearless.

I wish I had a video camera to have recorded that episode. Don and I were both laughing so hard.

She and Sakaura fight now. It's not serious fighting, and Georgia is a real instigator. She will run up to Sakaura and take a quick slap and then continue on her merry way.

Snoopy had her hair all shaved last week, so she's much more agile now and she takes nothing from Georgia. She's even slapped her when she gets too close and nosy.

Snoopy's blood tests returned better results. Her T3 (or is it T4) levels are dropping but Dr. K would like to see them go a bit lower. Her Methimazole dosage was raised from 1.5ml/day to 2ml/day.

Georgia continues to roam free. I am not sure where she sleeps at night, but sometimes I wake to feel her sleeping on top of my feet.

This morning both Sakaura and Georgia were trying to sleep on my feet. So we woke to hissing and slapping noises. Thank goodness it was pretty close to wake up time anyway.

There is never a dull moment!

Freedom - Day Two

Georgia - January 10
Originally uploaded by fbruehl

Friday night we decided we would let Georgia sleep outside of her confinement area. Since I had a weekend off from work (read getting up before daylight), it was a good time for that experiment.

She actually did pretty well, so she slept outside again last night. Tonight will be the big test, since tomorrow IS a work day. I hope we can let her run loose so we can take the litter box out of that room. She actually prefers to use the downstairs litter box so since she will be free to use that at night, I see no problems there. Snoopy probably will not like that as much. She is so old and fat and lazy that she has been happy to have the upstairs accommodations.

She jumped in and out of the bed several times, but she nestles between my calves and sleeps really soundly IF I don't move. This morning she decided we had slept quite long enough so at 6:30 she came and purred very loudly right in my ear. I think maybe the other two cats put her up to doing that!

She and Sakaura are beginning to play a bit. She and Snoopy still coexist peacefully. Every week gets better in that environment. But every week Georgia seems to find something else she can get in to that she has no business doing. She still has so much kitten in her and she is so agile and fearless. Nothing is safe here - nothing! We have to be very careful with the dishwasher, the washing machine, dryer, etc. She explores everything.

My poor neglected baby

Sakaura - Jan2
Originally uploaded by fbruehl

I think she is so jealous! That glare in the picture is toward you know who, who had dared to jump up on the bed at the same time that Queen Sakaura was sitting there.

Funny thing is though -- I think Sakaura wants to play with Georgia, but her pride will not let her do it.

I feel that maybe Georgia has some bad memories of being outdoors in the snow. This morning I carried her just outside the back door and she went into a panic. She has no voice at all, but she made the loudest noise I have ever heard from her and was scratching and scrambling trying to get back to the door and inside the house. I certainly won't do that to her again. Poor baby.

Of course, the trauma did not last long. She was back to being her playful, fearless self within minutes. Right now she is sleeping in Sakaura's normal spot on the sofa. She acts like she's always been here and is THE BOSS!

No fear!

No fear!
Originally uploaded by fbruehl

When Marie at the pet shelter told us that Georgia was the right cat for this house, she was totally correct.

Georgia is not afraid of anything. That is the only kind of cat who could survive here with the two grinches. She does not make a pest of herself but nothing they do seems to get her rattled.

We still don't want to let her sleep outside "her room" nights, since I don't really believe she'd sleep quietly like the other two. But for the past few nights when it was time for Georgia to be put in her room, Snoopy's been in there sleeping on the bed. So Don's shut them both up together for the night. In the morning when I open the door, Georgia is first out but Snoopy is right on top of her and with no hissing and growling.

We've made so much progress.

Georgia and her Puff

Georgia and her Puff

She drags this all around and will drop it at our feet as a signal that we should pick it up and toss it high in the air for her to jump and catch.

The other cats do not want to play, so she has found a way to make the humans play! She's a very smart cat!

Christmas morning

Christmas morning
Originally uploaded by fbruehl

Things are going exceptionally well with the three cats. I am amazed. I still feel bad that Sakaura will not play with Georgia, but I can see her becoming more mellow by the day. One day I really think these two girls could become playmates.

Snoopy is still her stoic self, but she had stopped the growling to a great extent. She and Georgia have actually been spotted sleeping on the same bed - not close to each other, but still, that is great progress, too.

We continue to be amused by the musical food bowls. They all eat separately and then can not wait until they can go and see if one of the others ate all of their food and if it was better than what they got. We feed Georgia and Sakaura the same food. Snoopy is a big eater, plus she gets medicine mixed in her morning food, so we have to make sure that she eats all of that, and she usually does.

Sakaura is a very picky eater. So far, it seems that Georgia is not a picky eater, but she does not have the huge appetite that Snoopy has.

My Christmas gift - 2009

In order to convince Don we needed another cat, I told him it would be my Christmas gift. So here is a picture of my gift - not wanted to pose or be held at all!

Since I got this gift, we decided not to do any overnight travels this Christmas. Nor did we put up a Christmas tree. That is a good trade off. Since it is only the two of us humans, putting up the tree was just a job I hated, plus taking it down was twice as bad.

We are not spending an overnight, but we are driving up to Concord for our dinner -- eating at the Colonial Inn.

The kitties will get a can of "human tuna" for their dinner tonight. I am not sure how Georgia will react to that, but my other two love it and only get it on special occasions.

Merry Christmas!

She does not have a mean bone in her body. She is just very self-confident and she takes what she wants.

I'd like to be inside that little dream she is having in the picture. I can't imagine there is anything she might be wanting.

Except may for the other two grinches here to accept her and make her feel wanted.

Snoopy - bird watching

Snoopy - bird watching

Poor Snoopy. She was the original subject of this blog, but she's not been in the limelight lately.

As seen in the picture, she has come out of hiding. She roams around the house like she did before Sakaura came. She'd gotten a bit braver, but I believe the addition of the third cat has given her new confidence.

Georgia is much more interested in chasing Sakaura than fooling around with her. She got in a few loud growls, and I believe she's established her position as THE alpha cat again.

She is due to get blood work. I hope we do not have to increase her dosage, since with every increase the cost goes higher. She really needs a haircut. I know the vet will balk, but I may insist. She just gets so full of matted hair and I know that is uncomfortable for her. I believe it's been almost a year since her last cut, so at least she'd going longer in between than she used to.

Everything is going much smoother with the new addition than I'd have expected after just two and a half weeks.

This is not as bad as it looks

Sakaura's true personality!
Originally uploaded by fbruehl

It pretty much does capture Sakaura's attitude though. She is not quite ready to declare a truce. Especially around her food bowl.

We are still feeding the three cats separately. We must do that with Snoopy since her morning feeding includes her medicine. So we lock her in the hall bathroom. Georgia is fed in "her room", and Sakaura in the kitchen.

Today Georgia did not eat all her food so I brought her bowl to the kitchen and Sakaura was eating it when Georgia decided that she wanted it, too. She is brave but Sakaura has an evil hiss and if you look at that face, she is not to be taken lightly.

So Georgia retreated. Sakaura finished up the food.

And now Georgia is happy watching birds come to the feeder in the snow. She is making that little chatter noise, and creeping up like she is going to be able to sneak up and get one of them.

Fun times at Le Casa Bruehl!
